Georgian Citizen Darejan Kohtashvili will not be sentenced to death in Malaysia.
As Internal affairs Ministry Deputy, Nino Kalandadze said today on the special briefing held in Prosecutor’s office, any citizen of Georgia is dear for the government and it will protect them using all the possible ways.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, a delegation of the Foreign Ministry and the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia are in Malaysia where talks are hold with representatives of the judiciary of this country.
This decision was made after the Georgian side presented additional data on charges of drug trafficking, and averted suspicion from Kohtashvili.
“The court of Malaysia took into consideration interest of Georgian government and society and made delicate step,” – said Kalandadze.
Instead of death penalty, Darejan Kokhtashvili is sentenced to 6 year imprisonment. Now the Georgian delegation continues talks over Babutsa Gordadze. The Georgian side has produced evidence that the Georgians did not import drugs into Malaysia; they were imported via mail, and only then were handed over to Georgians.
Darejan Kohtashvili and another Georgian Babutsa Gordadze are accused of drug trafficking. They were detained for over a year ago and face the death penalty.
