In the frameworks of the Charter on U.S. – Georgia Strategic Partnership, 5th
meeting of the democracy working group is held in Washington.
From Georgian side the meeting was moderated
by the National Security Council secretary of Georgia Giorgi Bokeria and Deputy
Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze; From the U.S. side By Philip Gordon,
Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasia Affairs and Deputy
Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rubin and Thomas Melia.
According to the information of the Georgian
Foreign Ministry, the sides discussed a wide rage of ongoing and implemented
democratic reforms in Georgia,
including, changes in the electoral legislation and 2012 parliamentary
elections’ preparation processes.
“Also, the Georgia- U.S. Partnership in the
frameworks of the “Partnership for Open Government” initiative will be
discussed on the meeting and the opportunities of sharing the experiences of
successful reforms carried out in Georgia to various regions of the world too,”
– is said in the statement issued by the Minister Grigol Vashadze.
