Georgian
President held a special meeting, where he instructed the Tbilisi Mayor Gigi
Ugulava and Finances Minister Dimitri Gvindadze to help the disaster-affected
families in Tbilisi and East Georgia.
As the
City Mayor said, process of providing the victims with dwellings and necessary
things has already begun and will be finished by the end of the day.
According
to the statement of Gigi Ugulava, the city budget has a certain reserve, but
for rebuilding the infrastructure help from central government will be needed
too. In his turn, the Finance Minister has promised him to support in this
case:
At the
meeting, Mikheil Saakashvili paid particular attention to the City Hall’s
Rescue service and Interior Ministry’s coordinated work and stressed the
rescuers’ devotion while helping people and saving their lives.
“I would
like to thank the rescue services, which responded operatively, as always. It
is what does it mean to have a properly functioning state – all the departments
were working together and agreed: Ministry of Internal Affairs, the City Hall,
local government, Ministry of Correction and Legal Assistance of Georgia. In a
context in which people died, it is not proper to boast, but, on the other
hand, it is somehow revealing that we avoided having more victims and that we
have such a services in Georgia. I want to thank these people and appreciate
their merit”, - the president of Georgia noted.
