President met with the militaries participating in the disaster consequences liquidation works

President of Georgia personally thanked the representatives of the Georgian Armed Forces involved in the recovery process in Kakheti region. According to Mikheil Saakashvili, all military servicemen participated in the recovery and rehabilitation process in Kakheti region will be awarded by the special medals initiated by the President of Georgia.


“On behalf of the whole Georgia, Kakheti and its population, I would like to thank you, our Armed Forces and each of you, for being the first helpers of our people and supporters of each person in peace or in war. If Georgia is able to stand on its feet today, it is thanks to you. Finally, when Kakheti region was hit by such a huge disaster and in terms of material damage it was not less than damage inflicted by the large-scale military aggression towards us, you were heading to Kakheti already in a few hours to clean the roads, to rearrange the infrastructure. Several thousand homes were damaged significantly, thousands of people were left under the open sky, the majority of vineyards were destroyed, but several hours after the disaster, the restoration and reconstruction works began. Georgia’s main value is the people’s solidarity, mutual support and no one knows it better, than Kakheti population, than each of us knows”, - Georgian president stated. 


Ministry of Defence of Georgia got involved in recovery of the damage immediately caused due to the heavy rains and strong winds in Kakheti region. After the natural disaster about 2000 representatives of the various units of Defence Ministry were sent to the disaster area in a flash – including the IV and V Infantry Brigades, Construction Brigade, Engineering Battalion, Personnel of National Guard Cadre Brigade and more then 1000 reservists. Approximately 200 units of special and auto technique were mobilized to due complete recovery works in the disaster area.

Divisions of the Ministry of Defense and military equipments have been actively assisting Kakheti population in overcoming consequences of the disaster during the whole week. Also, by the initiative of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, a field hospital was opened in Telavi to help the disaster-affected population. The medical staff of the military hospital of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia was giving medical aid to the injured people without any compensation.
