The Parliament of Georgia will adopt the statement regarding the destruction of historical monuments in occupied Abkhazia.

In the statement prepared by the parliament it is said that, the Georgia side expresses deep concern over illegal works being carried out on Mokvi, Bedia and other Georgian churches in Abkhazia currently occupied by the Russian Federation and resulting in infliction of damage on medieval historical monuments.

“Similar “restoration” has already led to damaging of Illori St. George Monastery, a prominent monument of Georgian cultural heritage, and removal of Georgian trace from it.   Clearly, this vandalism is aimed at total destruction of the Georgian cultural heritage in the occupied Abkhazian Territory.” – is said in the statement.

According the announcement, “The Parliament of Georgia calls upon the international community to Strongly demand from the Russian occupational regime and the Abkhaz proxy to bring the illegal works being carried out on cultural monuments on the territory of occupied Abkhazia to a halt and to allow access of international experts from UNESCO and other relevant international institutions to the territory of occupied Abkhazia in order to study condition of the monuments concerned.”

We will recall you that, the leader of the occupation regime Alexander Ankvab has come out with the initiative of carrying out restoration works of Georgian cultural monuments – Bedia, Mokvi and other churches.
