Orthodox Christians celebrate the day of Assumption of the Virgin Mary – Mariamoba today.  

The Holiday Liturgy –prayer will be conducted by Georgian Catholics- Patriarch, the Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, the Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

Three of the twelve great Christological holidays – the day of birth of Mary, the day of her assumption and the day of bringing her to the temple – are dedicated to Virgin Mary.     

Fast of Mariamoba starts from August 14 and ends on August 28.  

Assumption of the Virgin Mary happened on the seventeenth year of the Lord’s Ascension, in Jerusalem, Zion, in the house of St. John the Divine, where Saint Mary lived until the Assumption. In Christian world, after the Holy Trinity, the Virgin Mary is praised.
