Murderer of Georgian Ilia Japaridze was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in Moscow. Ilia Japaridze was killed in 2009. The Moscow Lublinsky Court adjudged the murderer yesterday. Unidentified persons tried to derange the court trial, when they called saying that there was a bomb in the building, however, the information was not confirmed.

26-years-old Yuri Tikhomirov attacked Japaridze at his house and shot him in head with a traumatic pistol several times. His accomplice Beklagin struck Ilia with a knife 26 times. There was also a third accomplice, who was waiting gang members in the car.

Japaridze was actively bucking against racism in football fans. He was killed exactly the day before a football match, where he, together with his friends, was going to display a banner with an inscription “Football against Racism”.

By one of the versions, the murderers have some connections with nationalists; at least, they knew nationalists convicted for murders of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova. The materials of this case include intercepts of the talks, where nationalist Evgenia Khasis says to Nikita Tikhonov, that he knows murderers of Japaridze and he calls their group “Severni”. In addition, Khasisi and Japaridze were visiting the same sport club. At that time, on many Nazi web-pages there were posted photos of Ilia, as an active member of anti-Nazi movement.

However, as Japaridze’s advocate said, the court refused to recognize discord based on nationalism, as a motive for the crime, however, the investigation concluded that the reason for the murder was exactly this.

The two accomplices of Tikhomirov are wanted.
